چکیده

We report on the realization of a strongly interacting quantum degenerate gas of fermionic atoms in a three-dimensional optical lattice. We prepare a bandinsulating state for a two-component Fermi gas with one atom per spin state per lattice site. Using a Feshbach resonance, we induce strong interactions between the atoms. When sweeping the magnetic field from the repulsive side towards the attractive side of the Feshbach resonance we induce a coupling between Bloch bands leading to a transfer of atoms from the lowest band into higher bands. Sweeping the magnetic field across the Feshbach resonance from the attractive towards the repulsive side leads to two-particle bound states and ultimately to the formation of molecules. From the fraction of formed molecules we determine the temperature of the atoms in the lattice. PACS numbers: 03.75.Ss, 05.30.Fk, 34.50.s, 71.18.+y Submitted to: J. Phys. B: At. Mol. Phys. Molecules of fermionic atoms in an optical lattice.

We create molecules from fermionic atoms in a three-dimensional optical lattice using a Feshbach resonance. In the limit of low tunneling, the individual wells can be regarded as independent three-dimensional harmonic oscillators. The measured binding energies for varying scattering length agree excellently with the theoretical prediction for two interacting atoms in a harmonic oscillator. We d...

Long-lived dipolar molecules and Feshbach molecules in a 3D optical lattice.

We have realized long-lived ground-state polar molecules in a 3D optical lattice, with a lifetime of up to 25 s, which is limited only by off-resonant scattering of the trapping light. Starting from a 2D optical lattice, we observe that the lifetime increases dramatically as a small lattice potential is added along the tube-shaped lattice traps. The 3D optical lattice also dramatically increase...

Quantum transport of bosonic cold atoms in double-well optical lattices

We numerically investigate, using the time evolving block decimation algorithm, the quantum transport of ultracold bosonic atoms in a double-well optical lattice through slow and periodic modulation of the lattice parameters (intraand inter-well tunneling, chemical potential, etc.). The transport of atoms does not depend on the rate of change of the parameters (as along as the change is slow) a...

Adsorption of ozone molecules on AlP-codoped stanene nanosheet: A density functional theory study

Density functional theory calculations were carried out to investigate the structural and electronicproperties of the adsorption of O3 molecules on AlP-codoped monolayers to fully exploit the gas sensingcapability of these two-dimensional materials. Various adsorption sites of O3 molecule on the considerednanosheets were examined in detail. The side oxygen atoms of the O3 mole...

A nugget from FOCUS: Title: Effective Hamiltonian for ultracold fermionic atoms in an optical lattice across a Feshbach resonance Investigator:

We have derived the effective Hamiltonian for cold fermionic atoms in an optical lattice across a broad Feshbach resonance, taking into account both multi-band occupations and neighboring-site collisions. On different sides of a lattice resonance, the effective Hamiltonian is reduced to either a t-J model for the fermionic atoms or an XXZ model for the dressed molecules. The parameters in these...
